Short answer: our dataset contains zero verified true-DIY multi-zone systems, and the reason is a line-set footnote. MRCOOL's multi-zone bundles (the table below) use the brand's pre-charged technology for the condenser, but the pre-charged line sets are per-zone add-ons - the 2-zone product page says so explicitly, and the 3- and 5-zone pages are ambiguous. Budget the line sets per zone (they run into the hundreds per zone in the bundle variants) and the 'DIY' label on multi-zone deserves an asterisk everywhere it is sold.

- Price a multi-zone project as: bundle + (line set x zones) + electrical, then compare against two single-zone true-DIY systems, which are often the cleaner DIY route.
- If your zones are a main space plus bedrooms, a true-DIY single-zone for the main space plus a pro-installed multi-zone is a legitimate hybrid.
